Dewald Brevis delivered one of the standout fielding moments of IPL 2026 with a sensational direct hit to run out Aiden Markram during the crucial clash between Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, May 10. The run-out came at a vital stage of the innings, just when LSG were attempting to rebuild after losing wickets in clusters.
Earlier in the innings, Chennai had already tightened their grip through Jamie Overton’s brilliant spell, which included the key dismissals of Josh Inglis and Rishabh Pant. With pressure mounting, Markram and Akshat Raghuwanshi were looking to rotate strike and stabilise the innings.
The dramatic moment unfolded on the very first ball of the 13th over. Akeal Hosein bowled a full delivery that Akshat clipped towards deep midwicket, where Brevis was positioned close to the boundary ropes.

The batters comfortably completed the first run, but in a surprising decision, Akshat called for a risky second despite there being very little chance of making it safely. Markram trusted his partner’s call and turned back for the second run, but the gamble quickly backfired.

Brevis showed exceptional awareness and athleticism in the deep. The young South African gathered the ball cleanly and, in one swift motion, unleashed a flat throw directly at the bowler’s end. The accuracy of the effort stunned everyone inside the stadium.
