Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Shivam Dube has opened up about the franchise’s player-friendly culture, crediting its emphasis on freedom, family time and clear communication for creating a healthy environment. According to Dube, CSK keeps things simple behind the scenes, allowing players and support staff to spend time with their families during the demanding IPL season.

Dube has been an important part of the CSK setup since joining the franchise in 2022. The left-handed all-rounder played a key role in their successful IPL 2023 campaign, when CSK secured their fifth title. It was also the only season in his IPL career so far in which he crossed the 400-run mark.

Explaining what makes the CSK culture different, Shivam Dube highlighted the franchise’s approach to balancing professional responsibilities with personal well-being. “It’s not a big thing. There is no rocket science over there, but CSK keeps it very simple. First of all, when you’re there in the IPL for two months, it’s a long time, and I feel every player and every support staff member needs some family time. So they always allow the family to be with you.”

Dube believes having family around helps players remain relaxed and mentally refreshed before returning to their professional duties. He explained that CSK ensures players understand their responsibilities once they arrive at the ground.

“When you’re with your family, you’re free and enjoying your time, but then again, when you come to the ground, you’re fresh. This is the thing that they do behind the scenes, and when you come to the ground, they tell you exactly what they want.” CSK have traditionally been associated with stability and minimal changes, although their recent IPL campaigns have been difficult. The five-time champions have failed to reach the playoffs in each of the three seasons since their 2023 title triumph.

Shivam Dube also praised the management for continuing to back players even when they fail to deliver in individual matches. He revealed that CSK have repeatedly encouraged him to play with confidence rather than fear failure.

“They have told me on numerous occasions, ‘Shivam, we want this from you. If you try and you succeed, that’s good for you, and then for the team. But if you don’t succeed, it’s totally fine. You have tried your best.’” Dube has represented three IPL franchises during his career. Besides CSK, he played for Rajasthan Royals in 2021 and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2019 and 2020, making 92 IPL appearances overall.
