Chennai Super Kings have formally approached the BCCI following an incident during their IPL 2026 clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 5. The franchise has raised concerns over the music and remarks played during the game, which they believe crossed the line of sporting conduct.

According to reports, CSK objected to the use of the track ‘Dosa, Idly, Sambar, Chutney’ by Gana Appu — a song often associated with meme culture built around South Indian stereotypes. The franchise reportedly felt that the timing and context of the song’s performance, along with certain accompanying remarks, were inappropriate and not in the spirit of the game.
An IPL official has confirmed that the complaint has been received and is currently under review by the governing council. CSK managing director Kasi Viswanathan highlighted that while DJs typically support the home team, the atmosphere at the Chinnaswamy Stadium stood out for the wrong reasons.

“The DJs are usually around to support the home team. But here, certain comments were made against our players. Considering that, we’ve written to the BCCI to look into it,” Kasi Viswanathan stated.

Interestingly, this is not the first time the song has been at the centre of controversy. Last season, it gained attention after RCB wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma referenced it ahead of a match in Chennai. During that game, the Chepauk DJ played the same track when Sharma was dismissed, sparking reactions from fans and fueling the rivalry.
Following that episode, CSK reportedly implemented stricter internal guidelines to ensure DJs avoid targeting opposition players. Viswanathan reiterated that the role of stadium entertainment should be to enhance the atmosphere, not provoke or offend.

Beyond the song, CSK are also believed to be unhappy with certain remarks made over the public address system during the April 5 fixture, although details remain unclear. This latest controversy adds another layer to the ever-intense CSK-RCB rivalry, which continues to extend beyond the boundary ropes in IPL 2026.
