Fans are urging the International Cricket Council (ICC) to relocate the T20 World Cup 2024 matches from Florida due to recent flash flood warnings in the area. Heavy rainfall on Wednesday, June 12, caused severe flooding in South Florida, leading to widespread disruption and raising concerns about the feasibility of continuing the tournament there. Numerous images and videos of waterlogged streets in Florida have circulated on social media, illustrating the extent of the flooding.

Fans expect ICC to move out matches from Florida

In light of these conditions and the ongoing threat of further rain, fans are calling for the ICC to move the remaining matches scheduled in Florida to other venues, such as New York or Dallas, to ensure the tournament can proceed without further interruptions.

Currently, three matches are still slated to be played at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill, Florida, on June 14, 15, and 16. These matches are crucial, particularly for the teams vying for a spot in the Super 8 stage, including the USA and Pakistan.

On June 14, co-hosts USA will face Ireland in a pivotal Group A match. A victory for the USA in this clash would secure their qualification for the Super 8 stage. Even if the match is abandoned due to rain, the USA would advance to the next round with five points from four matches. This scenario would significantly jeopardize Pakistan’s chances of progressing, as they currently sit third in Group A with only one win from three matches, totaling two points.

Pakistan’s hopes of advancing are heavily reliant on Ireland defeating the USA. Should Ireland manage to overcome the USA, Pakistan will then need to secure a victory in their final match against the USA on June 16 to stay in contention for the Super 8 stage. Thus, a washout in Pakistan’s final game would be disastrous, leading to their elimination from the tournament.

Pakistan’s journey in the T20 World Cup has been tumultuous. They started with a surprising loss to the USA in a super over and followed up with a narrow six-run defeat while chasing a modest total of 120 in their second match.

The prospect of inclement weather disrupting the remaining matches in Florida threatens to diminish the tournament’s excitement and poses a significant challenge to the ICC’s efforts to promote cricket in the USA. Fans and stakeholders are hopeful that the ICC will take swift action to mitigate these concerns and ensure the tournament proceeds smoothly.
