Chennai Super Kings (CSK) clinched another thrilling victory after beating Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 5 wickets with the only ball to spare at MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk, Chennai) on Tuesday night.

CSK

In that high-scoring match, CSK decided to bowl first after winning the toss. KKR scored 202/6 at the end of first 20 overs which was successfully chased down by CSK in 19.5 overs after losing 5 wickets.

Now, we will look at the hits and flops players of this match.

Hits

Andre Russell (KKR) – Andre Russell was the only man in the KKR innings who succeeded to play big innings. He was the only KKR man to cross the 30-runs mark as he scored a stormy unbeaten 88 runs knock off 36 balls after coming to bat at no.7 in that innings.

That blistering knock was established with 1 four and 11 sixes. After completing his half-century in 26 balls, Russell became more dangerous with the bat. Despite KKR was once struggling 89/5 in 10 overs, Russell’s knock helped the team to put a big total of 202 runs (202/6) on that board at the end of 20 overs.

Sam Billings (CSK) – In the crucial situation. Sam Billings did the fantastic job for CSK as he played a thrashing knock to secure a superb victory. While it was seeming like the match was running away from CSK, Billings provided a superb 56 runs off 23 balls including 2 fours and 5 sixes.

Billings completed his half-century in 21 balls. Though he couldn’t finish the game, his effort was enough to secure the victory before the last ball.

Billings received the Player of the Match award for his brilliant knock.

Shane Watson (CSK) – The 36-year-old former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson utilised the powerplay superbly after coming to bat as an opener. While he provided a 75-runs partnership (off 35 balls) for the opening wicket along with Ambati Rayudu, Watson played a smashing knock of 42 runs off just 19 balls. In that innings, Watson hit 3 fours and 3 sixes.

It set-up the match for CSK which was later successfully dealt with the middle-order batsmen including Sam Billings.

Flops

Vinay Kumar (KKR) – Once again the right-arm bowler came in the flops list and this time it affected more than the previous match. His bowling figure was 1.5-0-35-0 while he failed to defend the 17 runs in the last over. In the final over, he provided two extra-balls including one free-hit.

Like the previous match, Vinay Kumar again bowled only in the first and last over of the innings where he conceded 16 runs and 19 runs respectively.

Piyush Chawla (KKR) – Totally disappointed the leg-spinner. While other spinners from both sides were effective in this game, Piyush Chawla was the second most expensive bowler in this game after the CSK pacer Dwayne Bravo (3-0-50-0). Chawla’s bowling figure was 4-0-49-1 as he conceded 31 runs in his first two overs in the powerplay.

MS Dhoni (CSK) – Struggled with the bat completely. After getting a good start from the openers, MS Dhoni came at the no.4 position but failed to impress and to play the important role for the team.

The right-handed wicketkeeper-batsman scored 25 runs off 28 balls, as his dot balls were raising huge pressures on the team.
