The lack of involvement of former Pakistan greats in the growth of country’s cricket has been criticised a lot in recent times and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have taken the allegations pretty seriously now as they have appointed former fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar as their brand ambassador.

Shoaib Akhtar becomes the brand ambassador of PCB

Akhtar, who has previously been critical of Najam Sethi during his time as chairman. In 2013, Shoaib said that Pakistan cricket had declined under Sethi and that he needed to understand he was now “a chairman and not a TV anchor”.

In 2015, after Pakistan’s heavy defeat to West Indies in the World Cup, Akhtar laid blame on Sethi and the entire PCB management. Adding to the same, he had several clashes with the PCB as a player during a 14-year career.

Shoaib’s role in PCB will be far from just enhancing the board with his name but to work closely with the board members and lend his expert opinion. On Friday, Najam Sethi himself made the announcement on Twitter and Akhtar replied with a thanking note.
