Team India was struggling at 131 for 7 when the Sri Lankans finally showed some intent to win a game.
A brilliant spell of Akila Dananjaya left everyone amused, but MS Dhoni and pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar had no intentions of giving it up easily as they helped India to cross over the line with a brilliant partnership of 100 runs.
India needed a big partnership to seal the match and they did get one. However in the 35th over, everyone’s heart came into their mouth when Vishwa Fernando bowled a back of a length delivery on the third ball of the over. Dhoni was looking for the singles, moved around the crease to play a dab shot down to fine leg but, he missed the ball altogether which hit his thigh and rolled back at the stumps. Surprisingly the bails did move but luckily for Dhoni they didn’t fall and MS behaved like nothing happened.
India was 172 for 7 at that point and Sri Lanka just needed one more wicket in order to secure their first victory of this series. However, it didn’t happen.
Dhoni eventually finished on 45* and India reached the target with 16 balls left and 3 wickets in hand. Fans were expecting from Mahi to finish the things off in style but a wide ball avoided it, or a six could have completed India’s former skipper’s half a ton too.
India will lock horns with Sri Lanka on 27th August for 3rd ODI, where men in blue will be looking to get an unassailable lead in the series. Here is the video of the incident:
